Transadriatic cruising
If you had the chance to sail the waters of Lastovo or Vis you surely asked yourself how many miles there are to reach the other side of the Adriatic, to reach Italy ...Lastovo, the closest to Italy of all of our islands, is 59 miles distant from it. It's not that much, it's not that far - this thought will certainly cross your mind. However ... if you wish to see it four yourself and experience the crossing, we offer you the opportunity to embark our Elan 45 and launch into a winter crossing of the Adriatic.
The course starts in Jezera on Murter Island and the finish is in a small picturesque town called Vieste, situated on the very tip of Gargano peninsula.
Before we leave our territorial waters, we will have to do the border crossing formalities at Ubli on Lastovo, and then we are off. The course is 207, the winds and sea rough as always in winter ... Adriatic winter is characterised by south or north wind, you will see which one will come your way.
We will spend one day in a lovely small marina in Vieste, and after that - back to Jezera.
When do we arrive in Italy? It depends on the wind. Return? Friday evening or Saturday morning. One week of sailing, the crew organised in so-called "guardias" (some "sleep" while others sail), cooking in interesting conditions ...
You will cross the Adriatic Sea twice, feel thes power of winter winds and waves, experience the lonely Palagruža and maybe even cast the anchor there and take a shelter on its lee. After this course you will surely not consider the Adriatic Sea to be a small, calm pond.
The route can always be modified depending on weather conditions, but we never give up the crossing.
Note: considering the season a winter sailing waterproof jacket and rubber boots are a must!
